Chapter 5
And The Big Questions Are ...
The evidence for precognition is overwhelming and complex! Before
launching into the hows and whys of the rest of this book, you might like to review the
summary memos at the end of each of the last four chapters. As in any court of law, the
body of evidence may appear contradictory in parts, and in the final analysis all may turn
out to be not quite as it seems on the surface!
Assume you are a member of the jury, assessing this summing-up. Review
the clues, ask yourself more questions and take a sideways look at the whole subject. Is
there another angle, another view? How much of this evidence can you tie together? What
picture is emerging for you so far?
I have reserved the evidence according to science for the next chapter
because it seemed to belong more with the hows than the whats. How is the focus for Part
Two and why for Part Three.
How can the evidence be explained? Is there a satisfactory theory which
covers it all and, if so, can we put it to work and use it to advantage in our everyday
lives?
More importantly, is precognition solely a biological, physical or
mathematical phenomenon, or does it carry meaning and purpose on a spiritual level? Can we
see beyond the hows and be uplifted by the whys?
Following your review of the summary memos, you might like to add your
own questions to the list below, which covers some of the main themes raised by the
evidence so far:
TELEPATHY
When previewing a future event can be explained by telepathy (a
connection to a present thought or event occurring for someone else):
How does the person receive the telepathic information?
Why does the person receive information about
a specific person, thought or event? Why are so many of the previewed events connected with
death, illness, accident, travel and change?
Why is the information sometimes received in literal
detail and sometimes in symbolism?
PRECOGNITION
When previewing a future event cannot be traced back to telepathy:
Is the previewed future event still explicable in
terms of links to the present, such as:
* projection of present probabilities?
* unconscious problem solving?
* unconscious manifestation?
Is the previewed future event absolutely untraceable
to the present, because:
* it is a predetermined, fixed event?
* the future already exists in a timeless dimension?
* an outside agency such as God, Spirit, spirit
guide or deceased person is communicating information from a level of understanding which
is beyond human intellect?
Why does the precognitive information refer to a specific
person, thought or event, and not to any other person, thought or event?
(Is there meaning in the future glimpsed, or is the future seen a chance
effect?)
Why are so many of the previewed events connected with
death, illness, accident, travel and change?
Why is the information sometimes previewed in literal
detail and sometimes in symbolism?
Why are only some dreams seen to be precognitive?
THE FREE WILL/ FIXED DESTINY PARADOX
The paradox
The precognitive experience generally inspires an increased sense of
awe for the power of free will in determining the future, while also leaving room for a
distinct faith in some degree, however small, of a predetermined destiny. The Hypnosis
Project suggests the paradox may be valid.
How can free will reside alongside fixed destiny,
or is the paradox a reflection of human misperception?
How much of our individual future is shaped by our
individual free will?
How much of our individual future is shaped by predetermined
destiny?
How much of our individual future is shaped by
the free will of others: the family, society, politics, geography, world
events and so on?
How much are we the sculptors of the shape of things
to come?
Can science explain how free will or predetermination
shape our individual futures?
Why? Is there purpose in possessing free will,
or purpose in predetermination?
THE LINEAR TIME/ NO TIME PARADOX
The paradox
The precognitive experience generally leads people to feel that there
exists, beyond our everyday perception of linear time, a dimension of timelessness where
past, present and future are combined in one all-existing 'now' moment.
Are there two co-existing time dimensions, or is the
paradox a reflection of human misperception?
