'Rainbow'

Feeling The Picture
Your feeling reactions to a dream are keys to its interpretation. These are my feelings. If this were a scene in your dream or life, how would you feel about being there?
I feel privileged to be celebrating this rare moment. The storm circles the beach leaving me warm and dry in my magical spot. The distant hazy rain filters the sun leaving me free to roam the beach without getting burned. I am protected from both the deluge of rain and the scorching sun. On top of that I am blessed with the vision of a perfect rainbow. I feel rewarded and uplifted.
I feel the harmony of walking the middle path between rain and sun, of being in the 'right place at the right time' to raise my glass and accept some of that powerful energy into my being. At the same time I feel the abundance and omnipresence of the rainbow that can pour endlessly into my glass without disappearing from the sky.
The Symbols
Symbols in your dreams often relate to your personal memories and associations, so always consider those first. Then let your mind play with other, more general possibilities. They will not all apply! Just open your mind and notice where the symbol seems to fit and make sense of the rest of your dream.
A rainbow may symbolise the promise of the sun breaking through the rain (the promise of good things coming) or the beauty resulting from the balance between heavy rain and scorching sun. In fairy tales rainbows end in pots of gold, so they can symbolise rewarding paths to follow. A rainbow is white light broken up into its constituent parts. The red, orange, yellow, green, indigo and violet are the visible colours of the white light spectrum. In this way rainbows may symbolise the beauty of the many different parts that make up the whole, or remind us of the importance of integrating and blending many qualities to create something pure (white). Rainbows are transient, so they can symbolise the beauty of the moment - living in the 'now'.
The glass may symbolise celebration or any aspect of drinking. Alcohol may represent changed perception - a different outlook - since alcohol tends to change our mood. Or perhaps the dream is playing a pun, making 'wine' glass 'whine' glass.
Glass often symbolises an invisible (or semi-visible) barrier. Glass is often broken in dreams at times of 'breakthrough' when the dreamer breaks through a previous limited vision of the world or through an unseen (mental or emotional) barrier.
In this dream image the glass is receiving the rainbow as well as being a vessel for the alcohol. It may be a symbol for the combination of receiving and giving.
The Questions
Here are some questions the dreamer of such a dream picture might ask to work towards a complete understanding of the dream.
Try these yourself: just give your 'gut reaction' answers to the questions - your answers will surprise you in the insights they deliver. The key thing to remember is, "Don't THINK about your answers - give quick gut reaction replies". Your unconscious will deliver.
If this process can work powerfully for this image, consider how infinitely more powerful the insights are when the image comes from one of your own dreams - direct from your unconscious!
- How warm or cold is the sea?
- Have you been swimming?
- Are you barefoot or wearing shoes?
- How does the sand feel below your feet?
- Are you alone or is someone with you? If someone, who?
- What are you wearing?
- Why are you on this beach at this time?
- What is in your glass?
- Why are you drinking?
- The ring on your finger carries a special significance. What is it?
- Why are you wearing a watch on the beach?
- How long has the rainbow been there?
- What were you doing before the rainbow appeared?
- Did the rainbow alter your emotional outlook?
- Which rainbow colour stands out to you?
- What feeling does this colour give you?
- Look at each colour of the rainbow in turn: what feeling does each colour give you?
- If you could have more of one of these colours in your life, which one would it be?
Why?
- What is the cloud in your life?
- What is the sunshine in your life?
- What is the golden gift (spiritual lesson, insight) offered to you by the 'cloud' and 'sunshine' experiences you have named in Q20 and Q21?
- How can you use this gift in a new way in your life?
- How can you shine your light to benefit people who are patiently watching clouds and waiting for sunshine?
- When will you start to do this?
