I was staying in a hotel with my sister. The room next door was occupied by a man who was very threatening. He came over to our room and knocked on the door and pestered us.

I managed to get rid of him, but he returned. The second time he managed to get into our room and came towards me with a red thin electric cord. My sister was in the lounge and could not see what was happening.

The man had very fierce cold blue eyes that stared right through me. He came towards me with the cord and was on the attack. I don’t recall feeling the cord around my neck (as in the pain) but could not breathe.

I was aware that I was being strangled and tried to scream out numerous times to my sister, who still was not aware of what was happening. I kept on screaming but no sound came out. I struggled to wake myself up whilst trying to scream.

Hi Marlene,

Dreams often refer to what has been going on (consciously and unconsciously) in the day or two prior.

At the start of your dream you are in a hotel. Unless you have any personal associations to hotels, this may symbolise a temporary situation, just as we stay at or visit hotels for a short time only.

The strangulation suggests that you were feeling unable to express yourself clearly - severely so. Who, or what, at the time of this dream, did you feel 'strangled' by? Which situation left you feeling as if you did not express yourself, or feeling that you had held back?

The theme of having your personal territory/ space intruded upon is shown in the dream by the man knocking at your door and pestering you. What, at the time of the dream, would you say left you feeling pestered or intruded upon?

The red cord may draw attention to red: red as in anger, danger ... vitality .. the basics of life?

Your sister was not aware of what was happening. What are the main similarlities and differences between you and your sister? How would she deal with being pestered?

These are beginning questions .... to help you work towards understanding your dream.

The dream is not about your sister, or about the man, but about you and your feelings and beliefs. Getting to the bottom of your dream arms you with the information you need to see where you are coming from more clearly and this -in turn - empowers you,

Hope this helps. Please reply here so we all get to see how you feel about this.

Marlene,

If it happens again, make sure that you either "attack" the intruder first when seeing him, or project unconditional love towards him. One of these will do the trick to not losing energy through fear. Visualising this before sleep will empower you more.

In psychological terms, the intruder may be called the male shadow self. We all have them within us, unconsciously, but sometimes they get out of control.

Hello again

Thank you both Jane and Oobe for your response.I will be recording dreams and events around them from now on. A few things happened around the time of this dream, but im not sure which events relate to it. For example i am finding it hard to get on with a male collegue at work, i have an ex boyfriend hassling me that has done so for over a year now (i.e. phone calls, text messages etc).I do hold back on the last mentioned, meaning i have been avoiding legal action against him. Maybe it is time to take charge of this! Ps: I have reacurring dreams and will be posting them on this site as well.

Hi Marlene,

I've just added a reply to your post above and now, reading this, I can see the relevance.
