OVERVIEW INTERPRETATION
Hi Chris,
Well, in dreams it’s most insightful to look at all the people as representing your different beliefs and energies, and in your dream you are so aware of this that you FEEL these people to be YOU, even though they look different.
After this experience you should find it easier, in future dreams, to relate the other dream characters directly to yourself.
Some people find this thinking difficult or even upsetting, thinking it reveals shades of schizophrenia. Not so. It is psychologically and spiritually healthy to recognise that our life experience has given us many beliefs (some conflicting), many feelings, emotions, attitudes and approaches to life – each of these often pictured as other people in our dreams.
From time to time we need to take an inventory of our beliefs and attitudes, to let some go and to encourage the development of others. Dreams help enormously here.
The important thing is to find a good balance that serves us well. We say we feel ‘together’ or talk about people ‘getting it together’ when they are balanced and seem to know where they’re at and where they’re going in life. This is the process of integration: bringing those beliefs (people in your dreams) together under one roof – or into one tree as your dream chose to portray it.
Think of integration as requiring the same skills as organising a good party. The mix needs to be right. When it comes to people you have fallen out with, you either don’t invite them to the party or you need to heal the relationship before issuing the invitation. It’s best to avoid inviting people who drain you, who pick fights, who dominate the conversation – unless these people are transformed in positive ways. And so on.
A single tree in a dream often represents the self or, in some cases, the family tree.
In your dream you are considering three beliefs:
Seated self; pregnant woman; angry man.
The woman is pregnant with triplets, emphasising the three again.
The three comes up for a third time with “three weeks gestation”.
Sometimes three comes up in a dream to symbolise the three aspects of being: body, mind and soul (the physical, mental/emotional and spiritual levels of life).
Did the three weeks gestation feel like three weeks of gestation had passed or that there were only three weeks of gestation left to go before the birth?
What happened three weeks BEFORE your dream? (What had been gestating for three weeks?)
What were you anticipating three weeks into the future?
The dream reveals your anger over a situation and shows you that it is inappropriate, that is harmful to what is new (pregnancy) in your life.
It’s interesting that seated-you was “calm”, seemingly the opposite to angry. There are different kinds of calm. True calm is best, but often we act calm because we are hiding our anger. In the long-term the unexpressed anger festers and will ultimately seek expression. Anger cannot be buried. It needs to be acknowledged, expressed appropriately, healed (by discovering what the anger is really about) and let go.
In your dream you confronted the anger for good and killed it off. It’s likely that in dealing with anger in your dream, you also dealt with it in waking life.
DREAM ALCHEMY PRACTICE
Whenever you feel anger coming up, especially around the situation you’ve probably identified now you’ve had time to think about this dream, stop for a moment and visualise yourself sitting down as “calm, seated you”, under the dream tree. Then visualise yourself as the harmonious tree, about to produce new life. Then ask yourself why you were REALLY feeling angry and see what answer comes up.
This will enable you to name that anger and then send it on its way. (This is the opposite to burying it or to screaming it out without questioning the real issue behind the anger.)
