I'm in France and going on a day trip. I try to catch a bus to the train station.

There's confusion over which bus to take. I'm waiting with 2 friends (a couple). The girl and I find a bus that will stop at the station but it's not the special train station bus.

Suddenly the guy calls out that the right bus has arrived. We go over. They get on first then I get on. I don't seem to have to buy a ticket. I say I'm with them, supposing the guy bought three tickets.

There's no driver or official looking bus ticket person, just some girls in street clothes but they are bus people.

The couple have gone to the back of the bus which turns out to be the front. The driver's sitting up there. There's quite a spacious seat next to the driver, right up near the windscreen. The couple sit there first but move to a slightly bigger seat behind the driver.

So, I sit next to the driver. I think it's a better seat because there are good views on two sides.

My daypack is heavy but I'm not sure why. I think I might have a big book in there and my camera. The guy says he doesn't have his. I say I wish I hadn't brought it. He says he wished he'd brought his as it's a good idea. I say that I guess if I buy something I can put it in it.

I open a new packet of lifesavers (lollies). I take one and offer them one. I notice the next one is orange. I'd like that one but know they'll get it, but that's ok. They both grab one at the same time and the orange one falls on the guy's shirt or lap. They get the next 2 and put the orange one back. So, I can have it after all.

I'm in a hotel room with my female friend. I wash my hair in the morning and go sit on the balcony.

I'm soooooo happy I'm in France. I try to soak it up and remember it all because I'll have to leave and go home soon. But, I really want to stay in France.

I notice there's a river with benches and tables along side it. And cafes. People who sit right next to the river are asked to move by security or police. They're too close and might fall in if a boat comes along or pulls in there.

I think: BUT WHY DID THEY PUT SEATS THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Some people jump in the water and swim to the shops on the other side. They are going to help someone. A woman at the bakery, where I am now, offers large buns with cherries and liquorice to anyone who helps. I say no. I don't like cherries (I don't think the buns would be nice).

I joke, "How will I get the bun home? If I put it in my suitcase it will be like this!!" (I indicate with my hands that it will be squashed and thin).

Little comment about a little bit (which I suppose is one way to work with a multi-scene dream like this, start with a fragment and spiral outwards): I like sitting next to the bus driver too. In my childhood, I could sit next to the train driver sometimes, watching the rabbits bound over the track in country NSW. You certainly do get an expansive view from up front, so I guess it's a very forward looking dream. Maybe some doubts in you with that day-pack, but the orange saved Life Saver sign wholeness is reassuring. As for that cherries and licorice bun (!), hmmmm....(I hand it back to you)

Hi Geotangent Thanks for your imput. That part of the dream was quite positive I suppose. Travelling with a clear view, feeling weighed down by something but then realizing the usefulness of it, getting something that I want but thought I couldn't have. But the cherry/licorice bun?? Hmmm.... interesting indeed. An unappealing reward? Any ideas about the river part of that dream? Water relates to emotions, right? Going through emotions/emotional situation to help someone, but the benefits are not what I want??? Also, any idea about washing hair. I had a dream last night where I had washed my hair and was walking around with a towel on my head (not realizing) for half the dream. :) Melinda

Hi Melinda

I think washing hair is sort of like cleaning away ideas or thoughts - thoughts being represented by the strands of hair from your head.

I had a dream recently where I was rinsing henna out of my hair - was to do with getting rid of thoughts about a recent man in my life.

Ever see that old Doris Day movie where she sings "I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair, and send him on his way"?

Perhaps the towel wrapped around your head could represent idea incubation? Come to think of it, mine was wrapped in a towel in the first part of the dream (thinking of him), then at the end of the dream I'm rinsing it out (getting rid of those thoughts).

It must have worked too - I hardly think about him anymore!

I was going to have a think about your dream last night but had to go to bed early with a throbbing toothache. Might post more later.

Why don't you become a member? Have you read any of Jane's books? I have been a member here for less than a month and I already feel like I've had more than my year's subscription in terms of enjoyment, learning and interaction. I recommend it to everyone.

Hi Belinda Thanks for your ideas. Interesting about the hair! After removing the towel I finger combed my hair. I thought it would be difficult and knotty but it wasn't. Now I think about it, it was bleached and I had a little bit of regrowth. Hmmm...
