Subject: More Fire

Lara

09:28 06/12/2000

I was in a pub with a friend, a nice guy who I work with in waking life but am not especially close to. He told me he was going to show me an amazing new drink.

He poured a glass full of a clear liquid. I was thinking, what's so amazing about that?

But then poured in a shot of something else, his 'secret new discovery'. He jiggled the glass around and held it up to the light and I could see a whole little snowy village in the glass, like an elaborate snow dome.

Then he told me to look closer and in the middle of the village was a tall flickering flame, spinning and blue but not destroying anything.

He said to me 'That's the part only I can do' and I felt really amazed and childlike looking into this picture.

Note:

I woke from the dream feeling very peaceful. I've only ever read of fire as representing rage, destruction or perhaps the clearing of the old to make way for the new.

Hi Lara,

Is a flame always a precursor to a fire - and, if so, what kind of fire?

The flame in your dream was at the centre (of the village), it was tall, it didn't destroy anything and no fire occured.

I could write three or four pages to you on this dream - it is - aha - I was about to say 'pivotal' and word-tumbled on a clue!!!! (Your spinning flame indeed pivoted.)

A flame can be a passion ("an old flame"). It comes across to me more as a guiding light, one of passion, spirit, liveliness ... the spark of life grown confident and shining clear. Tall, like a tall poppy, or grown up, something or some virtue or quality within you that people look up to. Something to light the way; something central to your being (your village: your self).

Look again at the drink: clear (clarity) but also reminding you of water. What a miracle that a flame can burn in water! Surely no destructive fire can burn here.

I'm sure others will reply here and ask you questions too to help elucidate finer meaning.

These are just starting points.

Think about the snow dome and how snow is cold and the flame is hot. What burns in spite of what freezes? Your snow dome symbolism is a big lead for interpretation here, Lara.

May you become more and more clearly aware of the flame which glows within you, as others must surely already be ...

Wow, how interesting. It is a big lesson to learn in dream interpretation to start looking within rather than looking for a broader symbolic meaning isn't it? I was assuming that the dream had something to do with the guy who showed me the drink, moreso than being about a flame/village etc within me. I also liked your point that a flame is not necessarily a fire - it is important to clarify. I'm learning so much! As for the snow dome, how do others read this? Possibilities that come to my mind would be freezing out/being cold in attitude, freezing in time/stagnation/not stepping outside your little world, creating a flame (something rare/special) in a restrictive environment, for starters. Funny that in my original interpretation I concentrated on the flame, not the snow.

Hi Lara and Jane.

There are such wonderful polarities here!

I would like to note Lara, that when I was really beginning to get interested and work on my dreams, one of the first ones I had of significance was of a blue flame glowing in a ball, all by itself. It was lit by someone new in my life too. Someone who had not fully taken form as significant yet.

My dream was definitely about passion and my own inner power -- heat and light. That your dream is amidst such opposite forces -- both water and snow -- I would think, shows a great deal of inner strength to be a flame amidst the opposing elements.

This guy may have ignited a feeling in you, something of yourself, that your unconscious has instantly recognized and transferred to an immediate dream symbol playback. Your impressions of him might give a key to what he represents in you.

Such strength and within Lara! It is there and you can see it. What an empowering dream!

To round off this dream discussion, I actually ended up in a pub last night with the guy from the dream and other work colleagues. No amazing drink experience happened unfortunately, but I did have an incredible moment of clarity thanks to your interpretations of the dream. In (almost) 25 words or less, my colleagues and I are coming to the end of a 3 year project and many of us will part ways afterwards. Some of the people in this group of about 10 used to be good friends of mine, but more recently work pressures and people's changing personal circumstances have meant there has been more 'office politics' and a bit of animosity around. A few careless comments by certain people have resulted in me questioning the value of my own work (and, it follows, self worth). During our social function, the fellow who poured the drink in the dream told me that he and a few others had spoken recently about their admiration for my work and my ability to be a 'shining light' around the office. It seems the dream may have been about my need to recognise my own worth within the 'cold' work environment that I'm currently subjected to. My work situation does feel very much like a self-contained village as it is one small group of people working closely together. I have certainly been 'freezing out' a few people to avoid being hurt by their abrasive personalities while I'm trying to put energy into my own work. I have considered relevance of others of the dream's symbols which I won't bore you with now, but I just wanted to say thanks for your help.

Also, I have just become a member, so I will see some of you in the member forum from now on.

One more thing, the guy who poured the drink...I wrote down some associations (as suggested on this site)with him and some other people who have popped up in my dreams lately, and I realised that I see him as a fairly emotionally insular person - never lets himself go, not very affectionate or open though quite pleasant. I think he represents the way I have been behaving lately with my work group. So, he simultaneously represented a facet of myself as well as being the bearer of information.

Hi Lara,

Your pivotal dream certainly was.

Congratulations at seeing your own shining light and then letting it be so.

So few people do.

So often, shining one's light is mis-interpreted as an ego thing, whereas it is, instead, more an ignition of the whole powerful self.

Nelson Mandela summarised this poetically, but I cannot find his words. Maybe someone else can post them. His basic message is that we tend to hide our shining lights to protect others (to make them feel okay), rather than to fully be.

Your dream had precognitive elements, Lara ... or did the next day's drink and conversation manifest for you because of your enLIGHtenment over this dream?

We look forward to seeing you participating over in the Members' Community Forum,
