Hi John,
In addition to JuliA's perfect thoughts:
I saw 'mother' and 'pearlised' and immediately saw 'mother of pearl'. (Mother of Pearl, in my upbringing, is a type of shellfish which produces an especially colourful layer of pearl inside the shell.)
Then, take the concept of trying to shoo away an irritation (the spiders) with the result of them becoming clumped together in a sticky, sugary substance ... and you have the story of how pearl is formed:
A piece of grit (irritation) gets lodged between the two shells of a shellfish, and the way the animal deals with this is to produce a sticky pearl substance which covers the grit until it becomes a smoother pearl shape. So, something that was extremely irritating and uncomfortable is transformed into something comfortable and (to humans) beautiful and valuable.
This is, in essence, what JuliA is also seeing in your dream: that something which is irritating you can be turned from an irritation into something wonderful and valuable. This is done not by shooing it away (denying it, pushing it away...) but by transforming it (facing it).
In any case, your dream shows that shooing it away doesn't work ... the spiders ultimately get even more stuck to you/your life the more you try to shoo them away. And isn't this just true for all of us?
If you're going to be 'stuck' with an irritation (like ants stuck in sugar), you might as well face it and work with it to transform it into something much more valuable and comfortable.
The mother spider produces babies ... she creates ... and even though you see her creations as irritations, they are, in the end, miraculous creations because they prompt you to transform them into 'pearls of wisdom'.
What is irritating you in life? What seems to be stuck with you the more you try to shoo it away? How can you turn this situation into something of great value?
Sugar is sweet ... what is too sweet and sticky in your life?
I also saw 'pearlised' as a possible dream pun on 'paralised'. Is the situation which is irritating you leaving you feeling paralised? Paralised, stuck .. like being trapped in sugar? Makes sense, doesn't it? Are you feeling paralised, in a sweet (sugary) situation and irritated by it?
Spiders can also, for many people, represent power ... especially the kind of powers often associated with our 'female' side: intuition, nurturing and so on.
Any other thoughts, anyone?
Let us know how this feels for you, John.
