Subject: alien contact

I had to come to a screeching halt on the main road to my house because there were many cars stopped and the police (?) were popping everyone's hood open. I jumped out mad as hell demanding to know what was going on when a tall, very handsome man (looked like the Black Prince in A Knight's Tale) called me over across the road to him.

He said a transmission, likely first contact with aliens, had been detected in the area, but don't tell anyone because there would be widespread panic. He held me close and stroked my hair. I put my arms around him and felt like everything was right in the world. He just felt so perfect. I loved the way his jacket felt, the way he was the perfect height to nestle in my hair, the way his back felt under my hands (this is starting to sound like a Harlequin!)

I reluctantly pulled away and said, "I have to stop. You feel too good and my husband isn't here". He gave a wistful smile and said he understood.

Sometime in the course of the holding it had become night and I saw the lights of an alien ship pass overhead and saw it landing a few hundred yards away. I knew that was the last I'd see of him as he ran over to meet whatever came out (this was his job). I was desperately in fear for him but didn't dare interfere or face the monsters, and so it ended.

Overview Interpretation & Dream Alchemy Practice suggestion

OVERVIEW INTERPRETATION

Hi Chris,

You came to a screeching halt, many cars were stopped and then, later, you told the Black Prince “I have to stop”. A triple reference to stop!

The first two stops were due to obstacles on the road: the police and the other stopped cars and you felt angry and wanted to know what was going on. Where, in your life, have you recently felt angry about being stopped or blocked? Your dream goes on to answer your question: what’s going on?

To discover why you seem to be meeting obstacles you need to look within yourself and dreams provide the perfect scenario for this. Obstacles start inside with beliefs, conscious or unconscious, that cause us to hold back, usually because of fear of the very thing we hope to achieve by moving forward. If you’re fearful of the road ahead, all manner of obstacles will impede your progress and they all start and stop with you.

So, how does your dream help to throw light on this? It looks into the workings of your mind – the engine of your car, under the hood, as in the dream. It looks into the dark depths of your unconscious, your inner night, or inner knight in dark Black Prince armour. Your Black Prince is a variation on the tall, dark, handsome stranger, the part of yourself (your Yang) that has been living in the shadow and is only now coming into the light. You are just beginning to sense this wonderful, supportive inner energy that you have hidden inside yourself for a long time.

What is Yang? It is your male energy (whether you are female, as you are, or male). It is the energy of your left-brain: action-oriented, assertive, rational, intellect-rich. It is your outer world, the world of work and doing. Are you just beginning to embrace these qualities in your life now, or are you wishing to embrace the outer world more and feeling stopped or blocked?

Your meeting with the Black Prince is a first contact, echoing the theme of your dream, first contact with aliens. The Black Prince is a highly desirable stranger, the unknown aliens seem darker, being coloured by your fear of the unknown. The Black Prince offers you’re a feeling of safety in contrast to the panic he predicts once news of the aliens gets out.

Embraces with or without sexual overtones symbolise the energies you are embracing or uniting into your being. Whatever the recent stoppage has been in your life, your anger or frustration has caused the Black Prince energy you have kept hidden to emerge and you like this and embrace it. He presents as a handsome prince, not an ugly frog needing to be kissed or a monster alien needing to be loved, so you feel safe.

But still you stopped yourself just when things were feeling good. In the dream you were reluctant to continue the embrace because you were married, meaning, in dream terms, that you had other commitments. There was a wistful understanding of this. Your dream suggests you tend to create obstacles or stop your inner Black Knight from getting you everything that’s “right in the world” because of other commitments you have made in the past – not your marriage necessarily, but other committed ways of thinking and feeling about the world.

While holding your knight it becomes night. He takes you into the night, or unconscious, of your being and there you begin to see the light, to understand more. The light is the light from an alien ship passing overhead and then landing. Aliens in dreams are usually parts of your personality, experiences, feelings, memories or beliefs that you have banished so far from your conscious kingdom that they might as well be in outer space. They are parts of your being that you have alienated from your world. When aliens make contact in a dream, these parts of your being are coming back into consciousness for whatever reason. In your case, your anger at being stopped or blocked in your waking life and your demands to know why have brought the evidence closer.

Your next job is to follow the example of your Black Prince and meet your alienated energy to see what you can learn from it. It’s time to face your monsters. In the dream you felt you would never see the Black Prince again. In a way, you are correct, as he will be transformed as he meets the aliens, in the same way that the aliens will be transformed when they meet him. To move forward you need to embrace hidden and alienated energies, understand yourself more clearly, and be transformed by that understanding.

To help you to understand what you have alienated, I have suggested a dialogue dream alchemy practice.

You will find it helpful to read ‘Aliens and UFOs’ in Dream Alchemy, pages 128-34 and ‘Beautiful stranger’ in Dream Alchemy, pages 135-40.

DREAM ALCHEMY PRACTICE

Dialogue:

Your dialogue is between the Black Prince and an alien. Start with the Black Prince saying, “Why did you fly so far into space so long ago?” and see what the alien automatically answers. Keep it going for 20 minutes.

I just wanted to add that it was windy during his revelation/comforting, and I've noticed in past dreams that wind seems to come with the most emotionally intense scenes. Also the dreams that stick with me (that feel like something other than my brain emptying the recycle bin) are almost always centered around some man that I intensely love in my dream, but seldom know in waking life, and I wake up feeling crushed that I've "lost" him. Hi,

It sounds to me like you're missing out on close contact with the masculine part of yourself. That you've "lost" touch with it and feel "crushed" about it.

Maybe it's so foreign to you that it feels alien?

Our masculine side is our proactive, assertive self that represents our interactions with the outer world (aliens, outer space?)

Are you perhaps feeling that you life is somehow out of your control and you're needing to reassert yourself?

I'm thinking on the things you said, I feel it may be leading somewhere. Especially the life out of control part. (I've got 3 little kids and am husbandless due to his job 20 days out of the month, so I definitely feel like I have no control over my life!) Thanks, I'll keep working on this.
