We were at a drive-in theater in Las Vegas, Nevada. My husband was in the car with me and my children. The children were in the back seat.

My husband went to the concession stand to get popcorn and soda. While he was gone the children and I were playing with a hand-held calculator and suddenly on the screen was David Copperfield, the magician/ illusionist.

Then I looked to the right over my shoulder and David Copperfield appeared at the car window and offered me a way out.

He took my hand and led me over a barbed wire fence to a motorcycle where we both rode down the road to a highway.

Then all of a sudden we were on Highway 93 out of Boulder, Colorado. He seemed tired and said he was going to pull over. Instead we pulled off the road through another barbed wire fence and crashed. The barbed wire cut him in half through his stomach.

His last words were, "Go for help!" I limped down Colorado 93 highway going towards the city of Boulder. As I walked up the last hill, I looked up to see an emergency vehicle along side the highway. I continued walking towards Boulder and forgot about David Copperfield.

I dreamed this when I was 25.

My daughter dreamed a similar dream when she was 18, yet I had never told her the dream until after she told me hers.

I had this dream while at a computer conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. David Copperfield was having a show there, but my step-dad said we couldn't go because it was too expensive.

My dream:

I was at a drive-in Movie theater in Las Vegas, Nevada with my mom and step-dad. My step-dad went to get some popcorn and soda at the concession stand.

Beside our car, there was another red car. In that car was a little boy with brown hair wearing a white shirt and white pants. He had a black calculator. He said, "Do you want to see David Copperfield?" My mom and I said, "yes." So the boy gave us the calculator. We punched some buttons and then were able to see David Copperfield's magic show on it.

Then David Copperfield came up to our car. He said, "Would you like to come and see the show? Then come with me."

We got out of the car and my mom went with David Copperfield. I watched them jump over a large rolling barbed wire fence holding hands. It was barren on the other side. Somebody beside me said, "They'll never make it." I wondered if that was true or not.

How fascinating!

I see an unsuccesful attempt to get out of a situation using magic, or what it represents.

I'm coming to the conclusion that all ideas are shared with everyone else at some level, so this one must resonate with you both for some reason.

Sharing dreams over such a long time perios....very interesting....Jung would put it down to the colllective unconcious ....but whatever the reason....as with any repetitive dream...(cause this is what this is...between two close people) there is a certain resonating theme or element that is screaming to be heard. Look at all the similarities AND differences and discuss what they mean to you...you are both lucky that you can discuss them together. This is almost like seeing the same event from different angles......perhaps that is one of the elements..... you both have different angles and see the same thing differently.....Are you perhaps experiencing difficulties relating to eachother...just a thought. Obviously David is a key theme ...and hence magic....or more to the point ..escape...in all his shows he has several escape routines. In the first dream Julie...DC takes the fall and receives a blow to the stomach...his emotional centre...he didn't escape..but had to go through the pain just as the barbed wire went therough him. The wire itself is another reptitive symbol....what does this mean to both of you......

Barbed-wire to me is very dangerous. It cuts you and injurs you if you touch it.

Barbed-wire is usually used to either keep people out, or, in the case of prisons, to keep people in. In any case it is used to stop people from going somewhere.

So its a barrier........ do you and your mother have a similar barrier that needs to be overcome....is there a barrier between you that you need help getting through....?

Barbed wire cuts when you go over it. But, I was helped over by DC. On the other hand he was cut in half. Yes, I think at least I was escaping a bad marriage. Also as a child I was in a bad situation which I didn't get out of (rape) but, Shalie21 didn't have that situation or know of it until after we talked of the dream. Shalie and I are very close if she has a barrier I don't know of it.

Perhaps ...she simply needed to hear about it from you....to help understand you even more....remember in her dream she does not approach the wire...its always you and DC. I f the dream has prompted a discussion that has brought you closer....then that is great...often we can't see our barriers or even know that we have them...... but we certainly notice the difference when their gone!

Hi Julie, Shalie21, Lena,Chris and anyone else reading this.

I've been thinking about all this and I'm finding it interesting that the name Copperfield (Copper field) appears in relation to a barb wire fence, for barb wire fences are generally found in "open spaces".

I also find it interesting that the term DC is being used - as in it's relationship to batteries/energy and also as in the fact that some batteries are copper top batteries.

Calculator implies for me calculating something to obtain the final figures/outcome - perhaps calculating the risk of doing something and then even though we know it will inevitably bring us pain we do it anyway??

Concession Stand - implies to me conceding to something - admitting that something exists perhaps?

Barbed wire fences - barriers yes - human made metal (mental) barriers that not only keep people in, out, generally, although if someone gives you a hand and lifts a strand in a standard one you can easily go through it, they also are used widely to keep animals in an enclosed area. Perhaps implying the more primitive, intuitive part of self that was trying to escape at the time, rather than the conditioned Self???

Oh, and Las Vegas reminds me of gambling mainly, taking a gamble, taking a risk.

Nevada is also similar to Nervana.

Geez, just on reading that Concession Stand bit - could that have related to admitting something existed which was causing either of you to feel trapped at the time, or causing you to feel you had to "look over your shoulder" and hence you then took a "Stand."

And then this morning I woke up for some bizarre reason thinking yet again about this dream and it's reference to David Copperfield and wondered if, whilst here his symbolism is that of "magic" for you, that he may not also symbolise "illusion" to some extent, for things are definitely not always as they appear to be.
