OVERVIEW INTERPRETATION
Hi Rosina,
When a virus enters your body it can take some time before physical symptoms of the invasion become noticeable. Dreams sometimes pick up on virus or the beginnings of sickness before we become consciously aware of them. Typical dreams include invasions (the virus or bacteria invading the body), battles (the immune system preparing for combat), fire (increase in body temperature) and focus on body parts that will become infected.
Your dream included the fire engines to fight a distant fever, the mention of a virus, a future battle (as undercover agent on a mission) and symptoms (fainting and dizziness). So your dream may have occurred at an early stage of viral infection.
Diseases are often regarded as reflections of the mind. Two people may be exposed to the same virus but only one may develop symptoms, for example. Health depends on the strength of the immune system but also perhaps on the state of the mind. Dreams can be helpful in pinpointing attitudes and beliefs that may be making you more susceptible to developing symptoms, so you can help defeat the invasion by changing those attitudes.
Your dream occurred during a period when international terrorists were threatening to use anthrax as a political weapon, so the anthrax may have simply symbolised a virus or it may have symbolised terrorism, or your fears of having your personal safety and stability threatened. Your dream raised the issue of being a single mum and not being available to work outside the home. Is financial stability or emotional security an issue for you?
You titled your dream ‘contracting anthrax’ and, although you didn’t use the word ‘contract’ in your dream, you were given a mission: a contract. The word ‘contract’ also means to reduce in size, or to draw back. Is there a contract or agreement in your life (formal or personal) that is feeling invasive (like a virus) for you, perhaps reducing your personal or physical security in some way? Are you feeling vulnerable?
You mentioned two numbers: about 30 people in the queue and 3 months. What happened for you when you were 30, or 30 months ago, or what do you anticipate may happen (perhaps according to a contract) in 30 months time or in three months time?
Fire in dreams can represent anger: we feel burned by anger and we can burn with anger. Your dream starts in a main business area and you see smoke, evidence of fire, in the distance. How are business and anger related for you? What is it that you are angry about? Anthrax begins with an, as does anger. Dreams use word play and this could be significant.
In dreams as in waking life, a hospital is hopefully a place of healing. Your dream looks at how you can heal the anger. First you see the queue of about 30 people, so first you need to see how whatever happened at age 30 (or the other options outlined earlier) are related to your anger. You jump the queue as if to say “no more waiting”! You find a circle. In dreams a circle is often a symbol of wholeness and healing. It’s a completion. So it’s no surprise to see a healing figure, a nurse, at the centre of the circle. Clearly you were in danger, as you were about to faint, but the dream shows you feel wrong about admitting you are in danger or, more likely given the queue jumping, that you feel wrong about putting yourself first.
You state that you cannot accept the mission because your first priority is your two boys, suggesting that feeling bad about putting yourself first is the issue. The healer in the dream, the nurse, realises that you must receive the antidote to anger and then work on healing (“work for them”) to heal yourself. Your mission is to heal yourself of anger and to know when to put yourself first. The large sum of money is the huge personal value and self-esteem you will accrue from working undercover (under the surface of your emotions) and you stand to benefit in every respect (“my children would be taken care of”).
It’s possible that you were vulnerable to the viral invasion that made you sick because you were not putting yourself first in some circumstances, particularly around a need to heal anger instead of suffering it.
DREAM ALCHEMY PRACTICE
Writing Exercise
Set a timer for 15 minutes and start writing or typing as fast as you can – with no room for thought – a story titled “The Angry Contract”. Just let the words flow – a kind of stream of consciousness. Stop when the timer sounds. Read over your story at leisure. You will be surprised how much you learn from this.
How does this work?
By working with dream elements and symbols in writing form you are communicating with your unconscious mind in its own language to create change, to explore your feelings and to resolve and heal past issues.
