Hi Peter,
In your dream you are on top of the hill and the soldiers (the threat) are coming up from below. What is coming up from below in a dream often represents what is coming up from your unconscious. This is how it works:
We experience things ... we relegate some things, experiences, thoughts and feelings to the unconscious mind ... i.e. we 'forget' about them for now and they become hidden in the unconscious mind.
BUT, the thing is, the unconscious mind is incredibly powerful. Thoughts and beliefs lurking in the unconscious mind can and do have a much greater effect on our lives than the thoughts and beliefs we are conscious of (we know about).
So, we have beliefs hidden in the unconscious which are more powerful than the beliefs we know about. See the link between 'hidden' and 'camoflaged' - as in your dream?
At certain times in life we have experiences that put us in touch with what we have hidden in our unconscious. New understandings about our life and who we are start to come up for us. At such a time we often fight this new knowledge - after all, life may be pretty comfortable as it is and change can be frightening (even if that change is ultimately for the better).
Your dream may well be showing previously camoflaged beliefs coming up from your unconscious mind - and you fighting them. You're "on top" of things, you feel (just as you are "on top" of the hill) so you feel threatened by change. You attack it. But it's getting through - it shoots your friend in the head. The head can represent the way you think - a shot in the head (killing someone in a dream) is most likely about killing off (putting an end to) your old ways of thinking.
What could be changing for you now, Peter? What changes could you be fighting? What new ways of thinking are breaking through? What new knowledge about your past could be breaking through?
What chances are you taking in life (just as you were taking chances in the dream)? Where do you feel these chances are taking you? On the other hand, what could this chance-taking be preventing from happening in your life?
The beliefs we carry or hide in our unconscious mind may be good or bad ... working for us or against us ... but one thing is for sure: you're in a far more powerful position if you know WHAT those unconscious beliefs are (through your dreams) and then you can decide how to act on this information.
The bottom line of your dream is: do you wish to fight what is coming up from your unconscious mind or are you ready to find our what's there?
Hope this helps,
